Saptarshi Mondal

From general surgery to neurosurgery

Saptarshi trained at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata — a century-old institution that has produced some of Indian medicine's most distinguished names. He completed his MBBS there between 2015 and 2020, followed by a rotatory internship in 2020–2021.

He then completed his housestaffship in General Surgery at the same institution, from 2021 to 2022, gaining hands-on experience in acute surgical care and ward management under senior faculty.

He went on to pursue his MS in General Surgery at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, from 2022 to 2025. An autonomous institute and one of Bihar's foremost centres for medical care and education, IGIMS gave him the opportunity to treat patients from some of the country's most poverty-stricken and under-served communities — an experience that shaped a firsthand understanding of surgical care delivered under real constraints. In 2026, he moved to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the country's apex medical institution, serving as a Senior Resident in General Surgery while balancing advanced operative work with academic research.

Having practiced across this full spectrum — from India's best-resourced institutions to some of its most under-served — Saptarshi brings a grounded, adaptable approach to patient care, shaped by both extremes. He is an aspiring neurosurgeon, currently training under his MCh in Neurosurgery for the 2026–29 session, building toward subspecialty surgical leadership.
